Universal Orlando Is Entering Its Next Phase: What Is Confirmed and What Not to Assume Yet

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is moving toward 2027, while two closures have already reshaped Universal Studios Florida. Major work is also emerging at Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe, but key announcements are still needed before those projects become dependable trip-planning factors.
Universal Orlando is entering a visibly transitional period. The destination’s only formally announced new attraction is Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, an outdoor coaster planned for Universal Studios Florida in 2027. Meanwhile, the resort has already retired Fast & Furious – Supercharged and set a final date for Animal Actors On Location!, two changes that affect today’s lineup before publicly detailed replacements arrive.
Construction activity is understandably exciting, particularly around Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe. Smart planning, however, means separating three categories: named projects with an announced year, closures with a specific date, and demolition or permit activity whose theme, timetable, and final guest experience have not been released. That distinction keeps travelers from purchasing a trip around an attraction that does not yet have an opening date.
For 2026 and 2027 visitors, this update is not a reason to delay a vacation. It is a reason to adjust priorities: catch a departing show, do not build a stay around unnamed replacements, and allow for changing pathways, construction walls, or affected dining. Here is the practical picture, with the level of certainty each decision deserves.
Hollywood Drift is the project with an announced timetable
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is currently the clearly announced new addition for Universal Orlando. It will join Universal Studios Florida sometime in 2027 and is described as an outdoor coaster inspired by the Fast & Furious franchise, featuring a 360-degree drifting sensation and a 170-foot vertical element.
Track installation finished in August 2026, and a pull-through test using a measurement vehicle began during September. That is a helpful construction milestone, but it is not an opening date or guest-access announcement. Testing, operational integration, and later adjustments can take time. Do not count on it for a trip before the end of 2026; for 2027, the only public commitment remains the year, not a season, month, or day.
Book 2026 around the park that exists today, not around Hollywood Drift.
If this coaster is your trip’s main goal, wait for an official date before locking in nonrefundable flights and hotel nights.
Two closures change what is worth doing now
Fast & Furious – Supercharged permanently closed on August 17, 2026. Universal has linked its retirement to a new chapter for the Fast & Furious property, but it has not announced a specific future use for the building. Visitors who experienced the resort in prior years should remove this attraction from any Universal Studios Florida plan: it is not operating, and there is no confirmed replacement that warrants waiting for a particular experience in that space.
Animal Actors On Location! will give its final performance on November 2, 2026, after operating for 36 years since Universal Studios Florida’s opening day. Universal said the venue will make way for a future experience, without identifying what it will be or when it will open. For families, fans of trained-animal shows, or guests seeking a seated break between intense rides, this is a genuine priority for trips before that date.
Visit before November 2, 2026 if Animal Actors matters to your party.
Do not shape an afternoon around Supercharged or an as-yet-unnamed replacement.
Islands of Adventure will change, but no new land is confirmed
At Islands of Adventure, the Lost Continent area is being transformed. The former Poseidon’s Fury facilities and The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad theater have been demolished, and Universal had said phased closures would make way for a new themed area. That confirms the district will not remain as it was, but it does not confirm the intellectual property, rides, restaurants, or opening date for the new offering.
There is widespread expectation of a possible Pokémon presence, but Universal has not announced Pokémon as Lost Continent’s replacement. It also has not confirmed the future of Mythos Restaurant. Operational comments attributed to employees have mentioned a possible March 2027 closure and demolition, but that information is not a resort announcement. If Mythos matters to your dining itinerary, reserve it when available for your travel date and do not assume it will remain open throughout 2027.
Epic Universe shows expansion activity, not dates to sell a vacation around
Permits and site preparation point to two potentially significant Epic Universe expansions: one beside The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic and another in Dark Universe. In the Ministry of Magic area, construction documents described a building of up to 150,000 square feet in early phases and later a scope near 96,000 square feet. That is a scale consistent with an indoor attraction, but Universal has not revealed the concept, ride system, or opening date.
At Dark Universe, later permits describe a three-level building of more than 93,000 square feet and include a ride-maintenance area on the first level. Site-preparation work has already been observed, making a meaningful addition a reasonable expectation. Still, reports involving a water ride, specific characters, or 2028 remain third-party speculation. The useful traveler takeaway is that Epic Universe may have visible work and future indoor options, not that a new ride will be ready for any particular visit.
How to turn this update into a travel decision
For a first visit before November 2026, the best approach is to treat Universal Studios Florida as a park with a temporarily changed lineup because of two transitions: Supercharged is gone and Animal Actors is nearing its farewell. Balance that by prioritizing rides and shows listed on the day’s schedule, and avoid designing an overly rigid day around walled-off areas. Construction does not erase the park’s value, but it can affect walking routes, sightlines, and nearby service availability.
For 2027, your travel profile should drive the choice. Coaster-focused guests can watch Hollywood Drift closely, but need flexibility until an official date appears. Harry Potter, classic-monster, or Pokémon fans have good reasons to follow future announcements, not to promise their party a particular new attraction. No price, hotel package, early-entry benefit, or eligibility requirement tied to these projects has been announced. Build the budget around tickets, lodging, and options available when you book, not imagined benefits.
The clearest signal has two parts: Universal Orlando is continuing to invest, but much of its future offering still has no name, date, or published guest conditions. Hollywood Drift in 2027 is the announced exception; Animal Actors on November 2, 2026 is the immediate deadline that can truly change a must-do list.
There is no need to wait for every unknown to be resolved before enjoying the destination. Just choose deliberately: visit soon to catch Animal Actors, travel for the current lineup if your dates are set, or preserve flexibility if Hollywood Drift is essential to your 2027 vacation.
Would your party travel before November 2, 2026 to see Animal Actors, or would you rather build a flexible 2027 plan around the official Hollywood Drift date when it arrives? TodoOrlando can help you compare both paths.
