My Disney Experience Makes Disney Resort Room Requests Easier

The app now shows more detailed room-request choices and lets guests decide whether preferred location or earlier room readiness should come first. Requests remain unguaranteed, but the change can improve important arrival-day decisions.
Arriving at a Walt Disney World hotel after a flight, transfer, or long drive calls for simple decisions made ahead of time. An update spotted in My Disney Experience on October 21 may help at exactly that moment: hotel room requests now appear in greater detail within a reservation.
The change allows guests to submit up to two room preferences through the app. Rather than leaving a broad request for the arrival process, guests can select location-related areas or features, and the choices may differ by resort. It is a practical improvement for travelers who know which part of a hotel works best for them.
There is also an important choice: guests can ask Disney to prioritize having a room ready early over their selected preferences. It does not turn requests into a guaranteed benefit, but it makes a tradeoff visible that can directly shape the first afternoon of a vacation.
Two requests, chosen before arrival
Within an upcoming reservation, My Disney Experience displays new screens with more specific room-request choices. A guest can submit up to two requests directly from the reservation. That makes it possible to set priorities before check-in, when travel fatigue or a rush to reach a park can make an important preference easy to forget.
Use those two spaces for comfort factors that genuinely matter, rather than a long wish list. A couple planning relaxed resort afternoons may value a particular hotel area; a family traveling with a stroller may prefer shorter internal walks. Since only two requests can be submitted, choosing them deliberately is more helpful than trying to cover every possible advantage.
Check the reservation in the app before arrival day and see whether the new screens are available.
Choose no more than two preferences that will truly change your group’s experience.
Treat each choice as a location request, not as a confirmed room category.
Choices vary by resort
The app does not necessarily present the same menu at every hotel. Preferences are tailored to the booked resort, so guests will see alternatives related to that property’s specific areas. The reported example for hotels connected to the Skyliner is the ability to request a room close to that transportation system.
That distinction matters when comparing hotels and planning time. For travelers expecting to use the Skyliner repeatedly, a nearby location may reduce walks within the resort, although it does not guarantee a room or remove transportation wait times. Guests spending less time at the hotel, or relying on buses for their park plans, may value another option shown in their reservation.
Earlier room readiness or preferred location
The new screen includes a checkbox asking Disney to prioritize having a room ready early over location requests. If a room becomes available earlier in the day but does not meet the selected preferences, choosing that option allows that available room to be assigned. It creates a clear decision between faster access and closer alignment with requested features.
For a group arriving early and needing to rest, change clothes, or settle luggage before dinner, earlier availability may matter more than a particular area. Conversely, if a floor or resort location is especially important to the trip’s daily routine, leaving the checkbox unselected lets the requests take priority over speed of room assignment.
It does not replace an accessibility need
These requests are still not guaranteed. The app makes preferences easier to communicate, but it does not promise they will be met or set a specific time when a room will be available. Actual conditions that day, including which rooms become ready, continue to determine what can be assigned.
If a particular floor, area, or other condition is needed for a medical reason or as an accommodation, it should not be handled as a routine digital preference. In that case, the stated recommendation is to contact Disney directly or call the resort so the need is known. That conversation should happen well in advance and separately from the two optional location requests.
Adjusting arrival day and the budget
This feature can simplify check-in because preferences are saved to the reservation before arrival. Review the app when the stay is approaching, confirm the two requests, and deliberately decide whether early room readiness is the priority. Then keep the arrival plan flexible: the selection does not confirm either an access time or a particular location.
No fee for using these screens, room-category change, or additional inventory benefit was reported. There is therefore no new cost to include in the budget, but there is also no reason to pay for plans that depend on a request being granted. For a very early arrival, arrange park time, a meal, or temporary downtime without relying on room access at a specific hour.
The update gives guests more control over a small but meaningful part of a Disney resort stay: where a room may be located and what should be prioritized at the beginning of the vacation. Its greatest value is making the choice between immediate convenience and preferred location explicit.
The change should be especially useful for guests who know their resort layout well, for those who frequently use the Skyliner when that option appears, and for groups with a defined arrival plan. Still, two requests do not replace a formal accommodation or guarantee the desired outcome.
